What is the NIST Privacy Framework, and how can my organization use it?
The NIST Privacy Framework is a voluntary tool that can help your organization create or improve a privacy program. Get started using the Privacy Framework by following a simple model of “Ready, Set, Go” phases, and align your business or agency with five privacy risk management areas: Identify, Govern, Control, Communicate, and Protect.

NIST Privacy Framework: A Guide for Small and Medium Businesses
The framework was developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at the U.S. Department of Commerce. It's a voluntary tool that can help your organization to create a new privacy program or improve an existing program. Effective privacy risk management can help you build trust in your products and services, communicate better about your privacy practices, and meet compliance obligations.
Industries working directly or indirectly with the Department of Defense (DoD) are required to use these guidelines and have more stringent requirements they must meet in order to continue to do work with the DoD.
Create or improve your business' privacy plan by using the Privacy Framework to build a strong foundation for identifying and managing your privacy risks, including determine your top privacy values, legal obligations, workforce roles and responsibilities, and assessing and re-assessing your plan and it's framework as needed.
